SOCIETY VS. POWER

In the face of this second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are once again faced with a series of restrictions and limitations that burden society anew, a society that does not cease to listen to reproaches from politicians and those responsible for managing this pandemic. At certain times it seems that the blame for the virus and its consequences lies with us, the citizens.

Voices, demands, complaints, under the constant warning that if we do not comply, we will have to accept a new house confinement, a confinement at home.

But,

What did the politicians do to avoid such a situation?

What measures and resources have they implemented in the service of public health?

What have they done to explain to the public and not have to constantly warn about the application of increasingly severe restrictions?

In the face of this pandemic, the political authorities have not found a balance between health and people's fundamental rights, such as freedom of movement and assembly, among others.

A society that has assumed the limitations of fundamental rights as a usual, normal, common occurrence, and has barely protested about it.

It was already unbelievable that the different societies in Europe and the world hardly raised their voices against home confinement, and that the majority easily complied with what it entailed, such as the maximum restriction and limitation of people's fundamental and basic rights.

The political power has been unable, and continues to be unable, to explain and make Spanish society understand the reason for each decision taken, which limits the fundamental rights of citizens. And, despite this, most of society has taken each of these decisions without asking for any explanation or answer. Are we becoming a submissive society, at the mercy of the politician? We already were partly, since we were always at the mercy of rules and laws established by the political power; and also many people rather believe in politicians than in the right sources; or they do not even consult or have the interest in being well informed. There is a latent polarisation of society in politics, for many reasons, which the Pandemic has only accentuate, as politicians have used this situation to deepen this gap. No, once again, they did not live up to what the situation demanded.

As a society we are, at this time, even more at the mercy of political power; there are restrictions, limitations and obligations that have been imposed on us that we have to comply with, but that have not been explained, there has been no prior work, no pedagogy, to make people understand why it is important and what for; they simply close down sectors of society that are so important, such as culture, the hotel industry, sport, etc., and that's it. They tell people to go home.

This, in a society, creates frustration, and what the greatest part of this society demands - and has the right and the duty to do so - from the people who have the obligation to manage this epidemic is:

What resources or means were put in place after the first wave of the pandemic to try to alleviate as much as possible the effects that are being produced and the consequences that are?

It does not seem that Spanish society is going to wake up, nor that the political power or its tone, is going to change. On the contrary, power wants more and more, it is insatiable. Citizens must continue to demand the protection of their fundamental rights.
